As the title reads, I'm looking into starting up a side business. Problem 1: I have no idea where to begin. Problem 2: see problem 1. Ok, that being said, new to the whole self-employment realm. I'm an operating room nurse by trade, so I'm not a dummy, just need a bit of coaxing to take the first step. I'm also a photography enthusiast and own most of the equipment needed.
Here's the skinny, my wife and I have been going through the process of buying a house, so the first step for us and for virtually everybody else on the planet is to look online and take virtual tours through homes. Our real estate agent is a friend of the family, so I asked her plainly how the process works, who takes the photos, how much are they charging? She explains that there are a few photographers in our area that charge X amount of dollars that the agents pay out-of-pocket. She gives me that and some other info and I immediately seen opportunity to make a little extra side money. What is the best way to go about this? Obviously, i'm assuming the real estate agents write off the expenses for photos at the end of the year. So I would obviously have to provide receipts etc. So, my main question is what is the best way for me to play ball and comply with the taxman? What kind of write off's should I be looking for to get reimbursed for at the end of the fiscal year?
Any advice would be so helpful to me. My wife is super-cautious, so help me convince her.
