Hi /r/smallbusiness! My girlfriend and I started an artisan salted egg snack business (salted egg potato chips and chicharrones) in March. We sell primarily through our online store where we ship all over the country and offer local pick up.
The question I have relates to shipping. We are shipping light-weight merchandise. When it's outside of our home state, we use the USPS flat rate boxes, which are free (besides paying the postage). However, the flat rate boxes are too expensive for local shipping. I've checked out ULINE, but the shipping cost of the boxes effectively doubles the per unit cost. As you can imagine when selling chips, spending over $1 on a box can really eat into margins, so I was hoping to hear of any tips related to bringing our cost for shipping supplies down. Any help is greatly appreciated and my apologies if this has been asked a million times. Thank you!
