Making money: refine existing business practices or keep digging for new clients?

Hi there,

Operator of a small IT shop here. We are an MSP – a lot of break-fix, out-call work still, but have been trying to weigh two different paths recently to generate more income.

I've seen gaps in the way we do business in terms of wasted time and material or other ways we seem to bleed money away. Similarly, there's always the pressure to 'get more work'.

I'm interested to know what the general consensus is, if that can be had in such a blind way, between refining the way a business operates and putting more energy into 'getting new work'. I find when I try to do both, I get spread too thin.
